Comments:

After watching the forecast for 6 hilltops all week, I drove an hour to a
hilltop southeast of Syracuse, NY which had a low chance of rain and thunder. I
set up the 5-el Yagi more than one wavelength above ground. Elevation was 1860'.
VE3UBL/b in Toronto and the Rochester VHF Group's W2UTH/b were stable and loud.
Then a cold front passed through the area just before sunset and the signals
suffered, but re-stabilized later. Signals to the south of the southbound front
stayed good and that was my most productive beam heading. At one point my CQs
got answered by a North Carolina station, but the ionization disappeared too
quickly for me to hear his grid. The Solar Flux Index was 139, the lowest since
May 17th which was only 4 days after the spring 6m Sprint. No stations were
worked to the west. I tore down at 9 PM with no rain or thunder encountered the
whole time. Best DX was northern Vermont station N1JEZ FN44 at 225 miles / 362
km.
