Comments:
Static crashes were bad Saturday afternoon and evening as storms passed by,
which made for challenging conditions on the lower bands. After installing
underground power to the cottage, my 15m noise problem has been tamed, but is
still present at times. It was S8 before. Now, when beaming Europe, it varies
between S2 and S5, maybe depending on weather. I still need to investigate. When
beaming south west, the noise still peaks to S6. For the WAE contest, it was S3
to S4 most of the time, which made the band operational.
Overall, I did better than my previous years, likely due to the rising solar
cycle. The 10m opening to EU was weak and short. I think I missed a good part of
it Saturday when I took a 1 hour lunch break. However, 15m was solid into EU for
most of the daylight hours, and 20m picked up later in the day and into the
night.
I really like this contest. However, I wish it was shorter. You run out of
stations to work in the waning hours of the contest, making it difficult to keep
your BIC.
