K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. I (N3UM)
did Single-Op Assisted in the Aug. 2023 NAQP CW test.
My goal was to beat my 8/22 NAQP CW claim. I did that; 0.98 X
as many Qs, but 1.19 X as many mults for 1.16X the 2022 score.
SFI of 160 & Kp=1 helped.
At 18Z start on 20 M I ran for 23 Qs at 72/hr, then clicked in Avail.
Mults & Qs for a total 69 Qs and 27 mults by 1906Z. Loud sigs TN
to WA. Then to 15M 1907-1946Z for 40 Qs in 39 min, & 19 mults MS to
CA. On 20 M agn at 1953Z I got 81 more Qs by 2115Z and quit to eat.
Back at ~22Z, I saw NO sigs and vy low QRN on 40 M. SWR of 1.1
showed ant. & cable intact. A Class-X flare had wiped out all HF!
Then 2205-2259Z I got 33 Qs. At first, weak sigs GA to ME, and easy
Qs with MD, DC, VA, and PA; no sky-wave QRM or QRN! Then 40 M came
back, 63 Qs/hr 23-01Z. So, the flare cost me ~30 Qs; with no flare
I would have got 18 more total Qs than in 2022 instead of 12 fewer.
After 01Z I got 24 more 40-M Qs in 26 min, then 86 Qs 0136-0254Z
on 80 M, 22 of them running at 89/hr. A 14-min. BK, then 51 40-M Qs
in 50 min, 0308-0357Z.
I got a last 9 80-M Qs 0403-0413Z plus LA, VT, NY, & 8P mults.
>From 0420-0443Z 160 M was good; 22 Qs in 23 min, plus 11 mults, MD & PA
out to ON & IL. QRT at 0444Z, 5 min. from 10 hr limit and no workable
spots. Missed AK & HI plus DE, ND, & RI. Got AB, BC, MB, ON, QC, &
SK.
