Comments:
Murphy at his best!
Fixed broken cable of 80m 4-square an hour before the contest. Good timing,
because as soon as I was done, some thunderstorm cells were approaching my neck
of the woods. Missed the first ten minutes and only got to make QSOs for 20
minutes before I had to go QRT for about 1 3/4h. Big bada boom. Needless to say,
that made me miss most of the action on 10m - only 6 mults.
Other issues:
- PC restarted on its own, and for whatever reason, it kept logging on wrong
bands
- No 160m antenna. Tried matching 80m Inverted V (bad) and 40m ZS6BKW (just as
bad), so yet again, only 6 mults.
- 40m beam is stuck at 300 degrees; probably faulty control cable connector.
Luckily, my ZS6BKW was useful to at least partially compensate for that issue.
- No low band rx antenna, so 80m rx was tough at times
Condx: Noisy low bands and significantly weakened high bands, due to a perfectly
timed solar flare. Well done, Mr. M.
Nevertheless, I had a good time and was glad the t-storms did not come back in
the late afternoon, as the wx service had predicted earlier. Plus, I now know
what I need to fix for next weekend's WAE.
Thanks for the Qs and till the next one!
