Comments:
A FUN AND TIRING CONTEST. WE HAD A GREAT CREW WITH A NEW MEMBER WHO HAD NEVER
WORKED A VHF CONTEST AT THIS STATION BEFORE. THE CONDITIONS DID NOT SEEM TO BE
QUITE AS GOOD AS LAST YEAR ESPECIALLY ON 6 METERS. HOWEVER OUR NEWLY INSTALLED
2 METER, OMNI DIRECTIONAL ARRAY NETTED US MORE Q's AND MORE MULTS THIS YEAR THAN
IT'S PREDECESSOR. WE ALSO ACHIEVED MORE 432 CONTACTS AND MULTS THAN LAST YEAR.
OUR MIRAGE B-310-G 2 METER AMP RUNNING AT 85 WATTS ON FT8 LAST YEAR BLEW UP AND
THE FINAL TRANSISTOR WAS REPLACED WITH AN NTE MILITARY SUBSTITUTE AFTER THE JUNE
CONTEST. THE B-310-G RAN AT 120 WATTS THIS YEAR AND BARELY GOT WARM. THE
PROBLEM LAST YEAR WAS NOT THE POWER LEVEL BUT INSTEAD THE ORIGINAL
"WHITE" HEAT SINK GREASE UNDER THE FINAL TRANSISTOR HAD DRIED OUT AND
WAS NOT TRANSFERRING THE TRANSISTOR HEAT TO THE HEAT SINK. THE NEW TRANSISTOR
HAS THE GREY GREASE WITH THE SILVER FLECKS UNDER IT!
WE HAD ONLY ONE COMPUTER GLITCH WHICH WAS EASILY SOLVED WITH A COLD RESTART.
THE FOOD WAS VERY GOOD, I COOKED IT MY SELF AND WE ALL A GREAT TIME.
SPECIAL TNX TO AI3Z WHO STARTED THE CONTEST OFF WITH ME AND HOPE HE RETURNS FOR
MANY MORE CONTESTS WITH US.
TNX TO THE MANY STATIONS WHO CAME BACK TO US AND APOLOGIZE TO ANY STATION WE
ACCIDENTALLY STEPPED ON. WE DID OUR BEST TO TRAIN EVERYONE TO PICK A CLEAR
FREQUENCY ON OUR TRANSMIT CYCLE.
73 FROM OUR CREW, WA3EKL AI3Z KB3VQC K3MTR N9SG K3LU
