Comments:
Park portable QRP - Elecraft KX3, 31-ft end-fed vertical wire in tree.
Only managed to work the final 15 minutes or so of the contest this year - had a
bad head cold (non-COVID) and knew I was only going to operate the last 2-3
hours if possible. I listened over the weekend on Web SDRs, and 10 meters was
amazing on Saturday. By the time I set up, the K index had increased to 4, and
signal attenuation was significant, so I worked FT4/FT8 on 10 until my mainland
spots were in the low negative single digits. That didn't happen until 2345z, so
I did a quick scan of the SSB band and worked the loudest stations I could
hear.
Contests that require me to work only US/CA mainland are tough for my QRP setup,
and SSB is the toughest of all the modes because of its high S/N requirement.
I'm sure I would have had better luck on Saturday, but that wasn't meant to be
this year.
Aloha and 72/73, Bob in Honolulu
