Comments:

Gerry, W1VE, graciously offered to help me set up remote access for station #2
at KP4AA. He even sent me the sound card and cables for radio connect to the K3
radio and computer. This contest was the first test of remote operation and was
highly successful. No noticeable latency and not a single drop-out and no resets
needed during the contest. Gerry said it was like he was right at the K3.
Gerry started the contest and right away was working USA and Europe stations.
Many stations from EU were S7 on the beverage antenna and armchair copy. Night 2
was a completely different story. Europe wasn’t heard from here for hours and
we thought it was going to be a bust but fortunately the band opened and the
first EU station (YO3APJ) was in the log at 0330Z 4.5 hours later than night 1.
I worked many EUs but most were at or slightly above noise level which was a
HUGE difference from the previous night. Here is the breakdown of stations
worked.
USA- 602
Europe- 165
Other- 50 including PYs, ZL, KH6s and Caribbean.
Station- 2 x K3S, 2x KPA1500 @ 1200 watts, Antenna is a sloping INV L at 45
degrees and apex at 45 feet. Europe (500) and USA (400) Beverage receive
antennas.
