Comments:

It was quite a fun contest starting around the 3rd hour with some incredibly
great runs on 20 and 40 (40 big surprise)! Over 500 Q's on 40 is absolutely
crazy for my small station. Best clock hour was 02Z on 40 with 188 Q's and best
60 minutes was at 0233Z with 206 Q's, a personal best. The average of 147/hr is
close to about a good as I can do. Things seemed to slow down around 04Z, but
not by a big amount. I had a late run on 40 around 05Z. The run on 40 starting
at 0133Z was incredible with the skip zone still quite short. No evening run on
40 was hampered by much of any QRM, a really pleasant surprise. There was a
jammer or two which followed me around the bands, but not loud enough to cause
much of any rate decrease.

10 meters sounded much better at the start than the CW weekend, signals louder
from more places, but scatter fairly weak. My 15M 5 el yagi at 94 ft does not
seem to play well into western NA for some reason, probably too high. In 2nd
hour I had to retreat from 15 to 20 to keep up a decent rate, was not running
well or breaking through piles while S&P'ing. Later on 15 at 21Z was better.
Skip was very short on 20 at 20Z, but the west coast was in the noise. There was
enough activity and decent conditions on 20 to run a good rate 20Z-0130Z with a
few breaks to other bands when the rate slowed. The west coast was in well on 20
starting around my sunset.

80 and 160 were a bit worse than the CW weekend and not getting to 80 until
after 03Z hurt my total for sure. Few 6's or 7's were worked on 80, and 160
signals were weak past the MS River with even some nearby stations weak.

The use of spotting has changed the character of the NAQP, an advantage for me
being spotted in a rare state. Thanks for the spots and all of the calls. I need
to S&P a bit more, but the runs were nearly non stop.

I was "Fred" this time in honor of K3ZO an icon of ham radio who had a
very positive impact on our hobby. Maybe using his name gave me some good luck,
it is a bit easier to get across than Jeff. A few Q's were lost due to the time
taken for comments on Fred, not a problem. We will miss his melodious presence.
RIP OM!
