Comments:
80 was OK at the beginning, but I could tell activity was spread out to other
bands. After 15 minutes everyone on 80 migrated to 40 even though there was
coverage over the entire USA. Not big run. Lots of activity on 40 when I went
there and had a good run, but in the past I had the SAL30 to quickly pick out
the weaker guys. It is down due to a wind storm, but the parts have been
repaired, just need the help to put it up again. The main thing I would was to
not use the tent triangles to tighten the rope. As the antenna vibrates, they
get loose. Knots will be fine. I would like to rebuild it with aluminum
tubing, but probably don't have the sizes since most of my tubing is from
tapered tubing as in Hygain elements. I still get killed on 40 even though the
inverted vee is high. The SteppIR 18e is on the ground and ready to go up,
perhaps this weekend. Ultimately I will have the 18e, very low dipole, inverted
vee, and 4 square for 40. That should help. However, not having an
omnidirectional antenna on 80 is a hindrance, so I will eventually use an
inverted vee and 4 square until I get a 4 square controller with an omni
position. 20 needs the 3 element sidemounted to the SE.
