Comments:
The stellar conditions from CQWW SSB made me excited for this one. I've been
operating from the N2QV station since 2015 and have yet to experience a good ten
meter opening. This weekend was surely just the opening act for Cycle 25.
WU2X and N2QV made this score possible. I can't thank them enough for allowing
me to operate and be a part of their station. I operated remote again this year
and everything was flawless.
N6TJ recently posted to the CQ contest reflector about flow states and I was
surfing a gnarly one during the final 2.5 hours. All day Sunday I thought
breaking 12 million points was a cinch. But at 2130z some calculating showed
that I needed around 300 contacts to get there. No way was that going to happen
given my rate was hovering around 70 per hour and trending in the wrong
direction. I was legit pissed at myself for sleep walking through Sunday and
assuming that 12 million was a given. A lot of mults would have to go in the
log to break that 12 million number. I combed through 20 meters and over the
course of 30 minutes found HC (double mult), TO5, 4U1, VE2, and CX. Seeing the
score take a big jump after a mult was like a shot of espresso and really pushed
me to keep going. During this time 40 produced a small run into EU. Then a loud
YB2 called for a double mult! That one along with the mults on 20 really had me
buzzing. To finish off the 2200z hour I found A4 on 40 for a new one. With one
hour left it was still going to be tough to get to 12. The run on 40 had dried
up. 20 seemed to be open to everywhere and the JA stations had good signals.
After 47 hours of running EU I was fresh meat to all other parts of the world.
KL7 (double), 9M2, and HI8 all called for new ones. I slowly tuned 40 during
this time and found a lonely E2 station for one last double shot before the
contest ended.
Records are made to be broken. This one won't stand for long once 10 meters
really decides to make an appearance.
