Comments:
he SteppIR was on sawhorses for the contest. Never worked reliably on 40 since
I bought it. I stared in September to have one final attempt at repair, but
there was not enough time and the weather turned windy. I had the 80 meter 4
square which has been great, and an inverted vee for 40/80. Nothing on
10/15/20. From CWT I knew that the wires were not effective at all on 20, so I
knew it would be difficult to catch the west coast and rare multipliers. The
really rare ones came accidentally and easily, even before I worked California.
I heard, but could not work SB and MB. So close to a clean sweep! My XYL had a
birthday which turned into a family party with a photographer and my 98 year old
Dad invited me to a Veterans dinner on Sunday, so I knew from the start that I
could only be part-time. No runs the entire time, but 80 worked well, however,
it was hard to find new guys in the Midwest after a while. 40 meters required a
couple calls to get most guys to hear me. Need some gain! There are always
antenna projects around here and I have incentive to return next year. It got
pretty chilly in the shack without an amplifier running. I haven't turned on the
heat yet because I try to wait for the first snowstorm.
