Comments:
Two years a go was our inaugural SS contest at ND7K. We missed the long standing
W6YI MSHP record by 1 QSO and boy did we self reflect about the many many
possibilities of what could of made the difference! The following year, Dan,
N6MJ, operated SOAB and finished second to K5TR (N5RZ). This time we set out to
see if the various station and operator improvements would allow for another
challenge to the 2009 record.
During the first hour we had a phenomenal rate of 181 and didn't dip below 125
until the fifth hour. The sweep occurred at 0140Z when LAX called in (thanks
K6TTT). We had high hopes of challenging the record again during the first
evening until 0400 came about. It was about then that our team Captain MJ
started to question the depth of the playing field. Suffice it to say, he was
right.
The online scoreboard was extremely fun to watch as K1LZ showed up and stayed on
us throughout the contest (log checking shall definitely be required before
anyone claims this race). N2IC kept threatening to show all of us Multi's what a
single a man can do (which he actually did as his amazing SO entry shows). The
close race between N6RO and KY7M was also another enjoyable one to watch.
The Icom 7610's again proved to be extremely useful in a three radio interlocked
MS setup. It was easy to find gaps and signals on their pan's and we had no
noticeable phase noise. The MOAS (setup by W9KKN and NN1C) was an excellent tool
to give us some amazing access to the new in band RX verticals... we could be
within 1 Khz of each other as an example. The K6AM Seekrit Black Boxes continue
to do their reliable jobs in allowing us to operate in such a fashion.
We want to especially thank our team mate John, W4IX, for answering the Friday
evening call to come join us on Sunday morning as work and health conditions
dictated needing another op last minute.
ND7K will be next on for SS Phone as a MS with Bill W9KKN, Levi K6JO, Mike KC7V,
and Tim N6WIN.
