Comments:
For the past several years I have operated SSB mobile in the Texas QSO Party and
have won that category several times. This year I opted to take my skilled CW
op friend Scott K5PS for a ride in "The olde grey lady", my antenna
festooned 1986 Pontiac Parisienne along much of the route I've done in the past.

We took Sunday am off to go to church but I got on for a few minutes at the
start Sunday AM from my home station on 40m SSB just for kicks. Wouldn't you
know it, the first station I heard was Lee KI5MM/M on the 3 county junction of
Hunt/Rockwall/Collin. Lee almost beat me last year, but this is his year to
score a plaque.
After completing those 3 QSO's Bob Harder W0BH chimed in from KS. Bob used to
run a bunch of the Texas Panhandle counties in years past and I sure hope he
does again. His presence up there is sorely missed. I scolded him a bit about
not being in Texas this year, but he said he had planned to run mobile in the IA
QP this year, but then company came and he ended up staying home.
Spinning the dial I found W2CEW in VanZandt, AD5WB in Galveston county and K5IZO
over in San Augustine. So that was my 14 minutes of operation this year. Spent
more 15 hours behind the wheel driving and navigating thru 35 counties for
K5PS.
Next year Scott and I may do what we did in Oklahoma in 2021, taking turns on
the radio with K5PS doing a TXM CW only entry and WB0TEV doing a TXM SSB only
