Got on to help the NCCC Team Telestars!
Of course, a couple bugs tried to stop me from getting started...
but they were overcome with a minute to spare.
20m not too bad, After 40 minutes the band is worked out, and
its time for alligators to CQ and CQ, and for me to tune and
call. QRP does better on 20m than 40m, so I stay as long as
I can make any QSOs.
And just FYI, their are dozens or hundreds of FT4 QSOs going on
on 14.080 listening on USB up to 2 or 3 kHz. (You can see them on
the waterfall.) So a considerate RTTY op would not start his
LSB RTTY signal until at least 14.083. Sorry FT4 guys!
Finally, at 90 minutes I move to 40m and drop into the alligator
pit again. The big guns have worked the other big guns, so they
CQ and CQ. If two little guns try and have a CQ, an alligator
lands on them to CQ some more!
Finally, with only 1 hr left I tried 80m and could not be
heard by anyone but CA. I slunk back to 40m to find anyone new
who could hear me. Finally, a second attempt at 80m in the last
few minutes got me to a massive 4 QSOs!
Can't get more fun than this!
And oh, if you are sure you need HIGH POWER to be heard, just
check PSKReporter some time. Other signals (and maybe yours) are
reported world-wide, but you are not making contacts because your
noise level is too high for you to hear a caller, or because
they don't really care to call you in the contest. Neither issue
is solved by high power.
