Comments:
A very enjoyable weekend with WB0SND, KK0U, AA0Z, K9UR, K9EI, WZ0W, and KF0HOG.
This was K9EI and KF0HOG's first visit to W0ECC and 'HOG got a good look at HF
contesting with an effective station. It was occasionally "character
building" with low power but this was a very good experiment.
Had a great crew but can't say the same about conditions! About two hours in
<<BIFF!>> and what was shaping up to be a rockin' morning to EU was
as flat as the breakfast pancakes. The polar cap absorption event for the rest
of the day kept the polar path shut down for us here in MO. Frustrating to hear
Texas, Florida, and W1/2/3/8 running EU that was inaudible - all it took was
those few extra miles through the red part of the map. Sunday morning (of
course) even 10 was open to zone 16 after the Sun came up. Oh well. Still not
bad for a summer HF worldwide contest.
Congrats to the other WRTC Practice squads and it will be fun to hear them do it
for real next year in Bologna.
