Comments:
This one is dedicated to John, K9IJ, who was a great ham and very active on the
VHF & up bands. John went SK last June. The FT8 operating this evening was
enabled by some of John's old hardware.
Operated this one portable from a hilltop about a mile from my house which gains
me about 60' in elevation vs. the home QTH. Might at some point be QRV on 222
from home again, but wasn't to be for this one.
Q Breakdown:
14 FM
6 SSB
5 FT8
4 CW
Only in a 222 contest can FM be the big winner!
Took advantage of the many rovers in the area. Thanks to WB8BZK/R, K9JK/R,
N9UM/R, and K9PW/R for the sweeps of the local corner. Snagged K9TMS/R once and
heard but never worked N9YH/R.
Best DX was KE8FD at ~315miles. Not bad for ~20W!
First time trying digi while portable. Got 4 grids I probably wouldn't have
worked otherwise and heard but missed another FT8 mult. Thanks to N9UM for the
last minute hookup on a signalink usb.
Operated SO2R which worked well to crank away on SSB/FT8 while tracking local
rovers on FM.
Station 1: FT-736R - Moxon ~2' above the car roof
Station 2: DJ-280 - 5/8 wave vert
