K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. For Dec.
2021 Stew Perry, I (N3UM) was the only CW op available. I did
SOHP, so no packet spots. I hoped to claim ~1.2-1.3K, like I got
SOHP in 2016 and 2018. Nope; just 1K, not near my best 2K claim
in 2019. Unclear why; after 00Z, Kp was 0 but SFI was 121, so
the D layer may have absorbed more.
FB start; 12 S&Ps on loud CQs 00-0013Z, then I ran for 223 Qs 2120-
0058Z, 61/hr. My cum 235 Qs by 01Z was in the 225-236 range of 3
previous years, but my 1.9 pts/Q was well below the 2.1 to 3.1 of
those years. I got only 3 far-West 6-8 pt Qs, & 1 EU at 0018Z.
In past years, S&P after 01Z worked well; ~20-40 Qs/hr, but 4.5 to
6.7 pts/Q. Same ~20-40 Qs/hr after 01Z this year, but just 4.1 pts/Q.
I got 16 EU Qs vs 26 to 85 in past years, and 15 far-West 7 & 8-pt
Qs vs 16 to 27 before, with most sigs from these distant grids weak.
A run 0354-0452Z got 45 Qs; 7 in the far W, 4 last EUs, and 183 pts.
>From 0515-0615Z I got only 29 slow Qs; 5 in the far W and a ZF, but
no EUs, and 59 pts. By 0615Z it was mostly dupes, Qs 5 to 10 min.
apart; time to QRT.
