Comments:
FTDX-101MP, AL-1200, 3 element quad at 40 feet. I missed the CQWW DX CW and 160M
contest since Mike KF4BOG was in the hospital. This was a part time effort like
most years due to Xmas parties and other obligations. I had trouble leaving for
Saturday night's party since many of my QSOs came in that 1 hour from 4-5PM
local before I left. I found it strange a day later on Sunday that band was
completely dead. When there are no sunspots 10 meter propagation sure is
unpredictable. The E skip can seem to have laser focus on a given area, like
working only Florida or Oregon. I also noticed plenty of times where the
propagation was extremely short. Some of these I think were meteor scatter and
made for some interesting times putting together call signs. I was surprised to
get FR and ZL but could not hear Europe. I worked the ZL when I thought I might
hear XE. Never did work an XE. We had bad weather Saturday morning so after
having 2 lightning strikes in the last year I was very cautious.
