Comments:

Three out of four pieces of Flex gear are out of commission. N7MB saved the day
with more equipment. I borrowed his amp that quit before the start so I used
his Icom IC7410 and my KPA 500. No receive antennas because I spent so much
time with technical “support” during the week. 80 meters unassisted single
band. I had never done a single band entry and it was nice to be thorough, but
felt I missed the action on the other bands.

First Night, Half Time Report (Saturday Morning):
448 QSOs
23 zones
71 countries

Europe had been coming through as early as 3:30 pm local. I S&P the first
couple hours, then realized I was almost always getting through on the first
call, so started running Europe, but already had 150 in the log. I heard
4L/LY4ZZ for two hours, but could not get him. Worked JW7QIA for a new band
country. Noticed there were two peaks to his area. Saturday morning I could
not get through to BY4SZ. JAs were coming through until 30 minutes after
sunrise.

Wife brought meals to the shack.

¾ Time Report (Sunday Morning):
624 QSOs
24 zones
81 countries

Slim pickings on 80 at night. CQing was not very effective maybe because I had
worked the band out. It was like Sweepstakes on Sunday. But conditions may not
have as good as the night before because there were not many central Europeans
coming through.
No Middle East heard; No 4X, A6, etc. No ZS.
Heard 4L/LY4ZZ again, but could not get through.
9G5FI worked.
D2UU might have been in the crud.
Heard 3B8M, but no QSO
Called C4W without success.

Took some naps in the middle of the night. Lots of zero point USA contacts.
Amazing how few Caribbean were on so the country count is down.
No HS or 9V1 heard at daybreak.
RM0F was in again, but did not hear any KL7 earlier. There were some strong VE7
though. Where were the PY stations?
6:30 local - Heard FK8IK work KH7M so I went up the band and called CQ and he
worked me.
Heard DS4EOI in the noise, but copied his call sign OK. No QSO.
Very few JAs heard.

BG5TOX was fun to hear as he came out of the noise. First parts of letters,
then the 24, then 599, then OX, then BG, finally BG5TOX. Heard him for about 20
minutes, but no QSO.
Some JA 45 minutes after sunrise, but can’t raise them. JA3YBK, JA8YOH worked
earlier. RM0F is really loud, running EU and JA. KH6LC is in an hour after
sunrise! East coast has faded, but western guys still making it. 1400Z
Called BG5TOX again without success; could have used the extra 1000 watts! Got
a couple “??” Pile up of west coast developed. No copy at 1415Z, so time to
take one more scan of the band and turn things off.

Final Report Sunday:
Family came over for Thanksgiving this afternoon so need a nap and help with
cooking. I previously did the cleaning. I had to take a nap, then got on for
the last bit. It seemed like Sweepstakes at the end; almost no QSOs to be
found.

644 QSOs
24 zones
82 countries

Conclusion:
I wish I had test equipment to check the 4 square. There does not seem to be
much difference between SE and SW, but I know the phasing lines are not exact.
There are so few contacts to be made that direction and only a couple Central
Americans were on. I need to put in the dump resistor, but have to get a box.
Right now a garbage bag and bucket protect the connections. A 1.5 KW amp and
more antennas might help. I have another SAL30 that I could phase, but really
it would be best to phase another 4 square! If there were more DXpeditions I
would be inclined to put up more beverages. It was all manual sending since we
just plopped down the rig on the table a little before the start. It looks like
all QSOs were made on 3.503.50!
