Comments:
I was more than a little unprepared when the clock hit 1850z, so I hurried and
put the portable station back together and redeployed my vertical. I was on the
air by 1902, so not bad. But - I wish I had been ready to operate 20m, rather
than spend the hour on 40m.
Still, it was fun, even though my rig/computer interface kept locking up - a
problem I thought I had solved a few years ago with ferrite clamp-ons. Then I
realized that the antenna was only about 15 feet from the operating position,
where it is usually 30 feet or more. Given the inverse square law for field
stun strength, it's no surprise the close proximity changed things a bit. I
will experiment with greater separation and see how it goes.
0300z? Outside in the dark? It depends on how the mosquito population reacts.
It is fairly breezy today, so they may not be a problem.
