Comments:
I had planned to operate the full 24 hours but on Friday evening had trouble
falling asleep and woke an hour before my alarm so with 3 hours sleep I felt too
drowsy to operate the last 3 hours.
When I arrived at the shack I discovered that some cabling that I had set up the
previous evening had been moved and it took me much longer than it should have
to reconnect and test everything. I started 12 minutes late and didn't get the
second radio up and running on 80 for another 12 minutes. I missed any Asians
that might have been workable on 80 and by quitting early didn't get any Asian
mults on 80.
10 was a pleasant surprise with good rates for over 3 hours. My best rate hour
was while 2BSIQ on 10 and 15, mostly 3-point Qs.
After rotating the 40m Yagi to EU in the early evening I S&Ped all of the HQ
stations and EU mults that I could hear. Then I tried running to EU but was only
getting called by North and South America. Much later I noticed the antenna
switches had selected the 40m inverted vee instead of the Yagi. Listening on an
EU Beverage I hadn't realized I was on the wrong antenna since almost everyone
came back on the first call.
Choosing to enter as Mixed was a mistake as the initial burst of rate on SSB
would quickly dry up and trying to copy CW on the second radio while making SSB
QSOs was also a rate-killer. I worked 3 mults on SSB that I didn't find on CW.
Overall I had a great time despite having to quit early.
73,
-Mike, N7MH
