Comments:
That was a lot of fun! Normally, I think of contesting as a winter activity,
being in a warm basement while the snow is flying outside. This time, I was in
an air conditioned basement, with a jacket on, while it was super hot outside
(95F).
The unfortunate thing is that my old Yaesu FL-7000 amp developed a problem while
trying to work a mult on 10m SSB. With about 6 hours to go, I was forced to run
barefoot (FTdx5000MP - 200W). This didn't work out as bad as I had feared as I
still had some nice runs on 20m.
Unlike all of the previous RAC Canada Day contests I've done from home, this
time there were tons of MB and SK to work on 20m. There were also lots of VE7
stations pounding in off the back of my beam. On the other hand, I only worked
a single PEI station and very few east coast Canadians - which is usually the
other way around. Perhaps the "heat dome" we are experiencing in the
west had something to do with it.
