Comments:
I operated from the summit of Thomas Mtn (6800ft) in Riverside County, CA (SOTA
W6/CT-016 - I activated it the day before). I operated there last year and
thought it worked well.
I used my KX2 with a KXPA100 amp and my Sotabeams 20-30-40 clip dipole. Brought
a generator for FD. The summit is reachable by 4x4. With the generator it's like
SOTA on steroids hi hi.
This was my 3rd field day and the 2nd I operated with cw. Last year was the
first time I switched from S&P to running. This year very little S&P.
Got bitten by yellow flies, stung on the bottom of my foot by a bee, lots of
high wind at times. All in all a great time.
I had to knock off at 10:30 (PDT) Sat night as my fist was getting sloppy from
fatigue.
My score also reflects my bonus points earned:
x2 for low power
100 pts for emergency power
100 pts for public location (there were other campers around)
100 pts for public info table (I have signed visitor log - it took time from
operating on the radio).
100 pts for 5 or more contacts using alternate power
100 pts for copying W1AW FD bulletin
50 pts for web submission.
