Comments:
For ladder points only. QTH Casper, Wyoming
Due to wind damage to my tribander, operation was limited to my 40/80 meter
dipole at 43 feet, which was used briefly as a "T" antenna on 160
meters. Wyoming WX conditions made repairs impossible prior to the contest.
Using this combination on the higher bands was certainly less than optimum, to
say the least, but allowed me to make a surprising number of QSOs. Also gave the
KPA1500 antenna tuner quite a workout! VSWR was awful on the higher bands, so
held power output to a kW to avoid damage to the coax.
Tried to pass out as many WY mults as I could manage with the poor antenna
situation. Very few EU contacts on any band. Managed to work Fred at KH7M on
several bands, but no luck breaking the pileups to work Bill's HH2AA the few
times I was able to copy him. That antenna combination receives and transmits
equally poorly!
I did take much of Sunday off to go pheasant hunting with my son. Sunny 17
degree day with two inches of fresh snow on the ground and no wind! Got a great
ring neck male. Sorry, I just had to brag about something!
