Comments:
Score was up this year over last year mainly driven by the 6M grid and QSO
totals. Part of that was the Es we had both days and the rest was that I was
able to operate FT8 on 6 while operating other bands, which was new starting
with the Sept contest.
My FT8 totals were a higher proportion than any prior contest with 70% of 6M
QSO's and 22% of 2M QSO's on that mode. Also had a handful on 222 and 432. As
many have pointed out this hurts the ability to run the bands and my 222 and up
scores are down a good deal from past years. With the higher point totals in
January for 902 and above that impacted my score relative to past years despite
working one of my highest ever grid totals in a January contest. I'm pretty sure
my 6M grid total is the highest I've ever had in this contest. Es were never
strong or widespread but there was enough of them to help the totals. I actually
counted the number of new grids that called me on FT8 but that I didn't complete
with - 28! Gives an idea of what was possible this weekend.
Tropo condx were very poor most of the weekend at my QTH. It was very windy
Sunday which typically is an issue During the spring sprints this year condx
were particular poor. There was some discussion whether the reduction in air
travel made a difference - fewer airplane scatter contacts. This contest felt
the same. Stations normally easily workable in normal winter time condx were
either difficult or impossible to work this weekend. Condx on 902 and up were
particularly poor Saturday night and most of Sunday. There was some improvement
Sunday night.
Tnx to the rovers that headed out including W3ICC, NN3Q, W5JMC, N2DXT, AF1R, and
KA2YRA. You guys make it a lot more fun.
Tnx for the Q's!
