Comments:
Been 6 years since I actually operated a VHF (or any) contest, and this was my
80 year old "lite" version of such a test. In fact, I claim to be the
80+ year old winner until all the other OMs turn up and claim otherwise!
My main objective was to test my new Q5 Five Bander (2/222/432/902/1296) using
my Flex 6500 as exciter. I ran 600 watts on 2M, 100W on 222 and 432, and 20
watts on 1296. I didn't have time or energy to get 6M set up using a different
transceiver- maybe for June.
Conditions were flat. My old 2M KLM 18LBX worked well- 3 MSK 2M Qs (K5QE,
K1TEO, N2NT) and 14 states total worked on 2M. Lots of 400+ mile tropo contacts,
but no 500+ miles. It sure was hard to get anyone on ON4KST or Ping Jockey to
makes skeds, and, for better and worse, this has become mainly an FT8 contest.
Hope everyone had fun. Thanks for the Qs.
