Comments:
Used this as a shakedown cruise for my new Icom 7300. Love the rig and its
filtering options. Slowly getting back into HF now that I can put up antennas at
my Illinois QTH again, however humble those antennas may be.
100 watts and a multi-band dipole up 20-25' is not going to bust a lot of
pileups, but it was certainly good enough to hold a run freq on 40 for a time.
But after years of minimalist ham radio, I'm starting to think about towers and
beams again. A QTH in the country would be nice, too... too much noise here in
the residential neighborhood to hear well on 80m. Ended up bagging it a couple
hours early because I couldn't hear many stations on 80m and those I could hear
had trouble copying me.
Great to start shaking off the dust of running HF pileups again. It's been a
long time and I am seriously out of shape, CW-wise. Best hour was only 53
QSOs... need to get back in the swing of things.
Thanks to my Spurious Emissions bandmates for getting on a team together: N0AX,
W4PA, K4RO and W1PY. Let's do it again!
Thanks for the QSOs. See you in phone and (maybe) RTTY.
