Comments:
This was a good contest, better than I expected, but I was hoping for a real 10m
resurrection from the dead. That didn't happen. There was lots of Es (DXMaps),
especially Friday evening at the start and on Sunday, but no new F2 that I
heard. Only the usual deep South Americans, no EU, AF, AS or OC. Very few
Caribbeans or CQ zone 9. Pretty much only what I've been working lately on 10m
FT8. The truly exciting times are still out there, like the Truth.
It reminded me of the few times I've operated in 6m contests. Lots of weak but
copyable signals if I closed my eyes, scrunched up my face, leaned forward and
focused intently. There was also a lot of QSB messing with my mind.
I use HamCAP to estimate propagation and sometimes for fun I reverse the
coordinates to look at things from the DX end. This time I put in Buenos Aires,
35 S and 58 W. They had a propagation map pretty much like ours, but upside
down. It included much of Africa and extended into southern Europe. Ours
included southern SA and a whole lot of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Good
for oceanographers, but not for hams.
Thanks for the Qs.
