100 W, dipole up 30', keyed entirely with a Vibroplex bug.
Conditions generally seemed fair. There was a little DX to be had, even from my
DX-challenged station (CT3, ZF, XE, and C6).
I often struggled to really hold a run frequency, or at least one where the rate
was above 40/hr. On the plus side, nearly every station who took my frequency
at least sent "QRL?" a couple times first, which is definitely an
improvement from previous years.
While I hoped this would be the year I completed WAS in a weekend, it wasn't to
be. I missed AK (heard one weak KL7 who was search-and-pounce), never heard a
KH6 who wasn't in W5, and, despite all the 5-calls, never heard MS. I guess
they were all on vacation in ID, because there were more ID stations than I
remember hearing from in one contest.
Sections missed: NNY, PR, SFL, WCF, MS, PAC, SJV, AK, MAR, NL, NT.
It was fun to have a neighborly competition with Charlie, NG0C, who is about 12
wavelengths to my east (he won by a good margin).
