Comments:
This was my 100th entry in CQ WW SSB&CW !!
The first on was OH3TA SOAB back in 1963.
Many things have changed in CQ WW during half a century:
- Call signs much shorter in most countries (...not in JA)
- CW speed has increased, up to 30++ wpm, no more vibroplex or hand keys
- No more home made rigs, less key clicks and no more chirpy signals
- 59911 is just ENNAAA today
- No internet until 1980´s, so no clusters, etc.
- The scores have triplicated in all categories
- The complexity of competitive stations has vastly expanded
- More flights, easier to travel abroad for a contest pedition
- Easier to get licenses abroad and less custom formalities
- The new power categories 100W 5W allow competition with low power
- No more paper logs and 6 weeks to send the log
- Computers have made a revolution in log keeping and log checking
However, there are still some things that have not changed:
- The competition for top scores was hard also in old days
- The Classic style - one op, one radio remains as it was in the 1960´s
- The excitement and fun are the same as it was 50 years ago
