Comments:
Band conditions were very good on 80, 40, 20, and even 15 meters, which was open
Saturday and Sunday with heavy activity. The 10 meter band was open both days to
the Caribbean and South America.
Problem: Transmitter section was growing worse in the IC-7410 and wouldn’t go
above ~250 watts. Discovered after the contest the problem was low 12VDC
corrosion in the power supply cable's fuses.
All QSOs were made in S&P mode; no running. That proved to be a slog for me,
very hard to make contacts because of massive competition forcing me to get in
line and call over and over. Often after a dozen or more calls, I had gotten no
response and gave up. Also frustrating: foreign stations in high demand that
would not send their callsigns for 8-12 QSOs, and then when they finally did, it
would be one I’d already worked, grrrr!
Station: IC-7410, Ameritron ALS-600 amp, Cushcraft R6000 vertical, dipoles.
