Comments:
Thanks again to Frank Donovan, W3LPL, for hosting this operation. Fortunately,
the thunderstorms in the area missed us and I didn't miss any operating time due
to weather. I usually take four hours or so off Friday night, about 06:00-10:30
or so. However, 20 was so good around European sunrise that I stayed on until
0740! Twenty was still open but I ran out of callers and new stations to work.
Saturday I ran out of steam (and, seemingly, new stations to work) at 06:00.
Ten meters was a surprise. It opened (sort of) about 13:50 and my last QSO was
17:20. Most QSOs were calling CQ on the second radio and every now and then a
multiplier would call. I only made 19 QSOs, but the 26 multiplier points were
welcome.
I tried several moves but the only one I remember working was moving ZB2CW from
15 meters to 20 meters.
My second contest with N1MM+ and two keyboards. I REALLY like two keyboards.
In IARU, I constantly had trouble getting the headphones "STEREO"
(split) setting right. It's hard to see on the Microham u2r anyway and doesn't
update when transmitting and using the latch feature. I wrote a short Python
script to show a colored rectangle (Green for Stereo (split) and Red for Mono)
and stuck that window between the two entry windows, right above the Check
Partial window. That reduced the errors.
N1MM+ provides UDP broadcasts of a lot of useful information, including the
"STEREO/MONO" headphone status and frequency for both radios. The
updates are very quick when a frequency or headphone status changes and there is
a slower update for no change. A big "THANK YOU" to the N1MM+
developers for documenting the UDP broadcast messages.
Apologies to the (fewer as time goes on) stations who suffered from my learning
curve for two keyboards - particularly PJ4A when I called CQ on top of him
(wrong keyboard) on 10 meters! Sorry, Rich.
Thanks for all the QSOs and to DARC for sponsoring this contest. It's one of my
favorites.
Hourly rates and QSOs by country and band follow.
73,
Mark, KD4D
