Comments:
I really enjoyed this contest. At first, I was surprised by the lack of really
strong signals and the empty spaces between stations on the bands. I checked 10
and 15 at times but found those bands virtually empty. I heard nothing on 10.
Saturday afternoon on 20 was wonderful. For some reason 20 was very, very quiet
-- I mean the background static was nearly completely gone. There weren't many
strong stations, but I was able to hear soft (weak stations) quite well. I just
spent time listening and making sure I had their info right before activating
the S&P mode. (I tried a little CQing now and then but got no calls.) My
operation on 20 reminded me of the old guys who would comb the beach with a
sifter, looking for money that people had dropped. I just combed the band.
In the early evening, 20 seemed to fade. 40 and 80 were not great, but as the
evening progressed those two bands got good -- especially 40. I found 80 quite
noisy and difficult to work for that reason.
Thanks, everyone, for the Qs! 73, Larry
