Pretty fun contest. I didn't want to do this all weekend, so I chose single
band 10M only. I used a 200W rig, so best I enter the HP category, although
never turned on my amp. Started a bit late on Saturday (1400z) and saw the band
was already HOPPING! Boy, that's fun when you can work a lot of stations on 10M
at this low point in the sunspot cycle. I probably missed out on Europe on
Saturday morning due to my late start, but did work a couple SA stations later
on in the day. The band died pretty much around 2330z Saturday. Got up Sunday
and checked the band at 1215z and it was again hopping, but this time, all I
could hear was Euro stations! Now that was fun! For about an hour, I worked
YU7, M5, E77, LZ3, S57, IB3, IB9 and CR6. How fun was that? Each contact was a
bit of a struggle, as they weren't hearing me as well as I was hearing them,
apparently. But after that, to my surprise, the band seemed dead all Sunday. I
worked a couple very loud TX stations, but that was about it, so went out and
enjoyed the nice Michigan weather. In general, I had a blast and used my new
(to me) FTdx5000 in its first contest (to my knowledge). I was impressed with
the rig too. Thanks for all the Q's.
