Comments:
Well, that was interesting. Despite the band being flat as a pancake, 33
Europeans, 2 South Americans, a few Caribbeans, and a passel of Canadians made
it into the log. The Europeans were hard work, for the most part and would have
been impossible without a beverage.
My folded unipole garnered several "big signal" comments, so I am
pleased with the way it is performing...thanks to VY2ZM's plans.
Propagation seemed to be rather strange with signals coming in best on the
"wrong" beverage. That caught me flat footed several times and I
apologize for keeping really strong stations waiting while I found the right
antenna. Also, propagation to the West wasn't what it usually is. Anything
west of the Mississippi was a cause for celebration. CA and WA were occasions
for "woo-hoo"!! Needless to say, no KL7 or KH6 this time.
As for the down side, I had a lot more dupes this year. Also, lots of Europeans
were hidden under US stations which were spread out over the entire band. I
heard VY2ZM at both ends of the band, up around 1.990 and then again down around
1.810 or so. As far as DX goes maybe there are too many of us and not enough of
them?
All in all, despite the flat conditions and my other gripes, I always enjoy this
contest. Thanks for the Qs.
