Comments:
Participation seemed down this year. It was a struggle to get the mult count up.
Heard, S&Ping, VK4MA. P33W but could not attract their attention. Also heard
but not worked, 6Y5.
Even with participation being down I think there are going to be some very high
scores as the band was extremely quiet.
Did work, for I think the first time in the same contest, both TF and OX which
was nice.
I think conditions were pretty good but not lots of stations on. Many, many
calls from 100W stations with most pretty easy copy except for the deep and
rapid QSB. So rapid it would take out a letter or the number in the call. Thank
you to all that filled or corrected their call for me.
Worked 4 KH6 which was the most I've ever worked in a contest along with several
stations from JA which was also nice. But nothing else from the Pacific. Guess
I'm spoiled from my time in Ca where working 3D2 and other Pacific Islands on
160 was like working VT from here on the east coast.
This was my 3rd 160 contest with the IC 7610 and it worked flawlessly. Having
the band scope on the display is handy and helped ID where QRM was, or might, be
coming from allowing me to slide one way or the other while trying to run.
Also 3rd contest with the W8JI 8 antenna circle receive array. It just plays!
Almost too well as callers off the back may not be heard at all. Not really an
issue for this contest but for other 160 contests another receive antenna in the
other direction is surely needed.
Thanks to ARRL for sponsoring the contest.
Equipment:
IC 7610
alpha 91b
2 phased shunt fed towers.
W8JI (as written up by W5ZN) 8 antenna circle array for receiving
N1MM+ which is, I think, still the premier contest logging software. THANK you
to the N1MM team for your efforts
