Comments:
I gave it a try but with my modest (low-altitude, non-directional antennas) it
was frustrating. Apart from one good run on 40m yesterday mid-afternoon, the
rest of it was like towing a cow on a rope through a swamp.
The 20m band was almost useless to me—I heard few stations and had to stand in
a long line to work even those.
The 40m band was good until mid-evening and then all I heard was a few Florida
stations, next to nothing from out west—Isn’t it supposed to “go long”
then?—so I finally gave up on it.
On 80m I did fairly well but the activity was scattered, mixed in with
ragchewers. I had a high noise level there, too, possibly from power lines
activated by yesterday’s snow and rain.
I also tried 160m by tuning up and down the band, but didn’t hear any stations
in the contest.
The two 10m QSOs were scheduled by a local amateur.
So, the best I could do was 162 QSOs. I gave up at 10:30 and went to bed.
