Comments:
With everything still setup from the Sweepstakes CW contest two weeks prior, I
basically just had to switch to a microphone headset and I was ready to go.
There is typically more activity in the phone leg so I looked forward to a busy
weekend but instead my first hours were disappointingly 20% slower than in the
SS CW. As the sun set my run rates finally improved and I made 88 QSO in 60
minutes on 80 meters. There was a lot of QSB this year and more than a few
stations completely disappeared before the QSO information was exchanged which
was frustrating. 20m was great for working the distant rare sections and I found
some interesting short skip openings however even with using very large antennas
I just did not have good run rates on that band. During slower times, I listened
on a second receiver for multipliers or new stations that could be easily
workable between the run radio’s contacts. Thanks for the QSOs, especially
those that made a special effort to activate rare ARRL sections. I would also
like to thank my QSL manager Tim WD9DZV for putting my logs on LoTW, E-QSL and
ClubLog as well as answering any QSL cards that come through the mail or
bureau.
