Comments:
Friday night, a massive thunderstorm had us shut down operations for an hour. I
have never seen a storm with such lightning; at the peak of the storm there was
a vivid lightning strike every 15 seconds or so! Being on a knoll overlooking
the ocean, we had a 270 degree view of the storm.
Now, the contest. Conditions started out miserable. Only 39 Europeans in the
log on 40M the first night, most of them weak and repeats needed to get the
call. QSB took them up and down, up and down, and every so often one would
bubble to the surface.
10M contacts were all Saturday, most of the 15M contacts were Saturday. The 15M
Sunday opening to W/VE was late in the day, and, sadly, only 1 European was
worked on 15M Sunday.
We welcomed a new member to the team this contest: Leo HR1LEO. We gave him a
quick course on how to push the buttons, and he operated about 8 hours between
the two days. Welcome aboard, Leo!
I'd also like to thank the station owner, Rudy N2WQ, for his hospitality and
making the station available at the DX Lodge Roatan. We all had a great time!
