Comments:
I was doing pretty well (by recent standards) until the SWR suddenly went to
infinity on 80. The antenna was acting a little flaky just before the contest
but seemed to settle down and worked ok for the first 34 contacts there. I went
out in the dark and wiggled the barrel connector where two pieces of coax are
joined, but that didn't help. Disappointed!! I guess it's time to replace this
trusty old soldier before I start remoting for the winter.
QRN on 80 was pretty bad so I don't know what my last hour would have turned out
if the antenna had not gone south. My hours were 65, 64 and 55. Activity was
down, due, I guess, to the unfortunate overlap with the CWO contests. After the
first time this happened, they moved the contest to the previous weekend, but
they moved it back this year. I sure hope they don't do that again!
