Comments:
Despite alternating between two simple antennas for 20m (dipole, vertical), the
band was almost useless to me. Signals were weak and the few strong
stations--those with towers and huge Yagis (per qrz.com)--had callers lined up
around the block. I finally gave up on 20m, took a break, and moved to 40m mid
afternoon.
Of course 40m was getting busy by then and remained so until mid-evening. By
that time the skip had reached the West Coast, too much for 100w and a dipole at
20'. At 9:30pm EDT I gave up on 40m and switched to 75m, which despite QRN
contained lots of strong, mostly nearby signals. Competition was stiff but I was
able to make contacts. By 11pm I'd crossed the requested goal of 100 stations
and went to bed. Whew. For me, using a modest station with inadequate antennas,
this contest was slow and tedious.
