Comments:
TNX everybody for calling !
We had an enjoyable and really fun contest, and in particular, what a fantastic
team to be together with !
Conditions were much better than anticipated. We thought in advance that we had
more than enough operators, but it showed wrong. Everybody were busy all the
time when not sleeping, with almost no time for breaks for the loo or for
eating.
10m provided very nice sporadic E openings to Europe, mainly on Saturday, but,
as expected barely no DX.
15m proved mediocre to us, at least not better than expected. Except a few
unexpected QSOs to USA around 01z. That was fun !
20m was way above expectations during the night and morning hours, with lotsa
Americans, but afternoon hours locally (after sunrise in US) did not produce the
nice US runs as we are used to in winter time. So all in all 20m result was not
much better than expectation, except it was real fun to work 20m for the entire
48 hours.
40m was, as usual for us in WPX contests, the most productive band. Not only
because of the double points, but we really got a lot of nice DX on 40m. This
is kinda special for us, because we are quite far north and have only 6 hours
from sunset to sunrise in this contest. Then it was real fun to work 48m almost
all 48 hours.
80m did not produce too much, at least not more than expected. But then again,
we have a very long day...
160m was better than expected, in particular taking into account our mediocre
antenna. Not much DX, but a good number of Europeans. We ALMOST completed one
QSO with US, but, SRI, cot complete.
All in all, we are very happy with the result, in particular taking into account
that we just started building up the new contest station at LA8W/LN8W. We still
do not have any in-band stations, merely one antenna and one station per band.
And all radios, linears and antennas are just collection of the old stuff we
previously used at LA8W/LN8W, LA3Z/LN3Z and LA9Z/LN9Z.
Watch out for us when we get the new towers and antennas up !
Looking forward to see you again in the next contest.
