Comments:

Have a lot of things going on and didn't really want to go all out for this one
but still wanted to be fairly serious. As things went along I decided I would
limit it to 24 hours on the air. Then thought why didn't I see if any of the
other locals wanted to compete on that basis? A little friendly competition
always makes things more fun. Well unknown to either of us N3BB did just that
and we ended up with very similar scores.

I'll echo N3BB's comments about propagation and others scores. Still a puzzle to
me why there is a bonus for 40 meter DX QSOs in this contest. Certainly a huge
advantage for areas which really don't need one.

The contest was not without problems. I knew there were some antenna issues
before hand but high winds here for days on end have discouraged antenna work.
When it's 25 mph on the ground it's more like 40 on the tower. Biggest issue was
40 meters. Discovered my NW-SE lazy H not working the first evening. Did some
checking the next day and apparently something has happened to the balun
(perhaps lightning damage?)and was unable to repair it. Then Saturday evening
the 40 meter Moxon developed an intermittent on receive. NE beverage also quit
working. Got frustrated and went to bed missing most of the opening to Europe.
Fortunately had no problem the next morning to JA, etc. - just should have
gotten up a little earlier. Over all though I consider myself lucky as I had
very few problems during the qualifying period for the last WRTC so perhaps
Murphy is catching up with me. It's actually a relief to not have that to worry
about qualifying this time around.

Conditions were better than expected on 15 (45 Europeans and 3 JA'S) and even 10
showed up with some good sporadic E. A surprise to work KL7RA on ten.

Enjoyed it!
