WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK OUR HOSTS SUSAN AND ALAN FOR THE WONDERFUL HOSPITALITY
THAT WE RECEIVED FOR THIS EVENT. THE CUISINE WAS SUPERB AND IT EVEN ALLOWED FOR
THE YOUNGEST OF THE GRAND CHILDREN TO SHOW OFF HER ABILITY TO COOK A BREAKFAST
FOR A FEW OF US. NOT SO BAD FOR A SOMEONE THAT WAS SO PROUD THAT SHE HAD JUST
LOST HERE FIRST BABY TOOTH THIS SAME WEEKEND. SHE ALSO HAD TO SHOW US THAT SHE
COULD BE MULTI LINGUAL IN SPANISH AND EVEN A LITTLE GREEK WHEN IT CAME TO
COUNTING. ALL THREE OF ALAN AND SUSAN'S GRANDCHILDREN MAY HAVE A TOUCH OF BEING
MULTI LINGUAL AND OFTEN WILL COME UP WITH A DESCRIPTIVE WORD IN SPANISH, GREEK,
FRENCH, GERMAN, JAPANESE AND RUSSIAN. SO SEE WHAT THE VALUE OF EXPOSURE TO A
BUNCH OF DX OPERATORS MAY BE. HAM RADIO HAS ITS EDUCATIONAL ADVANTAGES.
I HAVE TO ALSO SAY THAT CW HAD ITS ADVANTAGES OVER SSB SINCE I PERSONALLY CAME
DOWN WITH A TERRIBLE CASE OF LARYNGITIS EARLY IN THE CONTEST SO THAT IT WAS
EXTREMELY QUIET AROUND THE HOUSE AND STATION. EVERYONE ELSE ENJOYED THE RARE
QUIET AND I JUST KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT AT THE ADVICE OF OUR TEAM DOCTOR AND JUST
HANDLED THE ADMIN AND OPERATED. REMEMBER IT IS CW NOT SSB.
WE WERE ALSO VISITED BY A PROSPECTIVE HAM THAT ENJOYED THE WAY WE DID BUSINESS
AND CAN NOT WAIT FOR A CHANCE TO TAKE HIS TEST SO THAT HE CAN JOIN IN ALL OF THE
FUN. DAVE DOES NOT REALIZE WHAT IS IN STORE IN THE WORLD OF HAM RADIO.
WE EVEN HAD A BIT OF TIME TO PERFORM SOME MAINTENANCE AND WORK ON SOME OF OUR
AUTO ISSUES. THIS ALSO GAVE K3MTR THE CHANCE TO RIG HIS CAR FOR MOBILE
OPERATION. SEE WHAT CAN HAPPEN DURING A CONTEST WITH A GROUP EFFORT.
HERE IS ANOTHER ONE FOR THE BOOKS. WEATHER WAS ALWAYS A VARIABLE BUT IN ALL WE
JUST HAD A LOT OF NOISE FROM STORMS ON THE LOWER BANDS AND THIS TIME THE
LIGHTNING THREAT WAS NOT AS PREDOMINATE DURING THE CONTEST.
TEN METERS WAS QUIET BUT THERE WAS SOME ACTIVITY. I BELIEVE THAT THERE WERE
REALLY MORE LISTENING AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF MORE FOLKS WOULD JUST
CALL CQ AND NOT WAIT FOR A SPOT TO APPEAR. THIS TYPE OF PHENOMENA WILL GENERATE
PROPAGATION AND CAN PRODUCE SOME SURPRISING DATA.
FIFTEEN HAD SOME OPENINGS AS WELL. IT WAS A GOOD WAY TO SPREAD OUT THE
STATIONS SINCE THE CROWD ALL SEEMED TO HUDDLE IN THE MIDDLE BANDS WHERE A
MAJORITY OF THE SPOTS SEEMED TO BE.
TWENTY AND FORTY WERE THE MONEY BANDS FOR THE CONTEST. NOT ENOUGH CAN BE SAID
ABOUT THE TRADE OFFS THAT OCCUR AND THE VALUE THAT THESE BANDS HOLD FOR MULTI
OPERATOR STATIONS.
EIGHTY WAS ALSO UNDER UTILIZED. REMEMBER THAT THE POINT SYSTEM IN THIS CONTEST
ALLOWED EXTRA POINTS FOR 40, 80, AND 160. THIS BAND HAS A LOT OF POTENTIAL THAT
ONE COULD PRODUCE AN INTERESTING ANOMALY IF THERE WERE ONLY A HIGHER AMOUNT OF
DAYLIGHT ACTIVITY ESPECIALLY IN THE MORE CONGESTED AREAS. THOSE EXTRA POINTS
COULD BE REALIZED. IT IS REALLY A MATTER OF LOOKING AT WHERE THE MULTIPLIERS
CAN BE FOUND. THOSE POINT CAN BE OF VALUE AS WELL.
ONE SIXTY WAS ALSO UNDER UTILIZED. LIKE EIGHTY IT COULD ALLOW FOR THE EXTRA
GENERATION OF POINTS IF THERE WERE MORE ACTIVITY. WE ONLY HAD THREE CONTACTS
THIS TIME ON THE BAND. WE DID HEAR NR6O AND COULD ALSO SEE THE SPOT. I GUESS
THAT HE WAS NOT LISTENING FOR AN EAST COAST STATION BUT MAYBE WAS LISTENING TO
THE WEST. MAYBE NEXT TIME, WHEN MULTIPLIERS WILL MATTER BECAUSE I KNOW THAT HE
HAS A GOOD SIGNAL GOING THIS WAY.
IMAGINE WHAT THE CURVE MIGHT END UP LOOKING LIKE. ONLY A THOUGHT THAT COULD
RESULT IN SOME INTERESTING RESULTS. THINK OF WHAT THE BELL WOULD LOOK LIKE.
DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE WHAT THE PROPAGATION CAN BE. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO JUST GET
ON AND CALL CQ. THE RESULTS CAN BE MOST SURPRISING.
WE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT ONE SO WE SHALL SEE IF THE EDUCATION AND
LESSONS WERE LEARNED FROM THIS ONE.
SO ENJOY THE UPCOMING SUMMER AND THE HOLIDAYS AND HAVE FUN.
73 FOR NOW
PAT K0OO AND THE REST OF THE CONTEST CREW.
