Put in a fair amount of BIC time, mostly listening and S&P for rare and
interesting stuff. Only ran a few short periods. Not real motivated working
hundreds of stateside stns and JAs or concerned about scoring in this one. More
fun surfing for the hard DX and checking the propagation on all bands plus the
MUF limits to see what shows up and can hear me.
Not sure about all the interest in working different prefixes instead of actual
countries. Guess it's all about the alphabet soup on QSL cards or that CQ WPX
sheepskin. If that rocks your ham sandwich better than DXCC, then by all means
goferit. The hobby has a challenge and an award for just about everything and
everybody. That's what makes hamming what it is.
Condx were surprisingly very good out here at the rock bottom of the cycle.
Almost like the spots woke up just for this event. I can’t remember hearing
such loud sigs from all over the world on both 40m and 20m since we came back
here 3 years ago. The polar path came alive on all bands. Maybe some of the
super stns cranked up their output smoke to broadcast power levels??
Nah......most have god's own skyhooks, so who needs super power :-)
EU stayed open on 20m til sundown both evenings here. Not quite as impressive as
last year when EU was in all night, but light years better than what DX contests
have had to contend with over the past year or so. 15m even woke up nicely both
days. Managed to work SW EU and many US stns from all regions there, but 10m was
out cold. Quite a few EU showed up on 80m too, but 160m was disappointing. Too
noisy and too close to summer.
