Comments:
Great contest! Looked at the last few years' results, and figured there was no
way I was going to work 400-500 CW Q's. So decided to take a shot and give PH
Low a shot and try to give ND4Y a run for his money (hi hi - just kidding).
Well, south is my worst direction by far, so didn't think much about things. I
decided to check out a "new to me" Yaesu FT1000MP that's 100 watter.
Well, I got off to a poor start on 20M. I was hearing everybody, but not
getting through much. Come to find out, on this backup-backup station, I had
the 40 meter dipole trying to get out on 20M. Amazed I worked anyone. So, once
I got my head out of my rear, and put the beam into play, things went much
better. Worked hard at just S & P all Saturday. Did okay with about 90Q's,
but was pretty low in the multipliers. When Sunday rolled around, and I kept
hearing the same (loud) FL stations that I had already worked, decided to roll
the dice and call CQ FL. Well, can you believe a 100 W rig with the beam in the
worst direction could produce some contacts and multipliers? Well, I was amazed
and had some decent runs, which got me "into the ball game". I almost
doubled my Q's by the end of Sunday, and even took time off for the baseball
game. What a fun contest! Didn't get many of the mobiles, I assume they were
mostly on CW, but got quite a few mobile Q's from K4KCG and a few from KU8E.
Kept checking 15 and didn't hear anything on phone, but a few were on CW. I've
marked this one down already for next year. Thanks to all for the Q's and a
very fun weekend contest!
