Comments:

CQWW is the grand-daddy of them all. SS and NAQP are the arguably the best
domestic contests. As far as state QSO parties go, MiQP is right up there in my
book. I like that there are so many serious contesters that participate. I like
that there are so many rookies and novices to contesting that participate. I
like that it brings folks out of the woodwork from all over the state for 12
hours on a Saturday in Spring. I like visiting the state virtually in every new
county that I work. I like hearing all the KD8's and KE8's and YL's. I like
looking at my panadapter on 80 CW and seeing the "QSO party band"
filled with signals. No, this isn't a low / no rate state QSO party, this is
non-stop action, even at the bottom of the solar cycle. Heck, 400+ Q's in 12
hours is my kind of operating. You can keep your "10 Q's over two weekend
days QSO party".

I set aside Saturday for this event this year - it was a full-time event for me
and I set out to do well. My first entry into the MiQP was just 4 years ago in
2015, despite being licensed for 40+ years. I won the "rookie" plaque
that year - something I have to admit I'm a bit embarrassed about now. I'd like
to see that plaque awarded to some of the new talent I heard on the air this
weekend, to help encourage and reward contest activity on HF by newcomers.

Four years later and my score was actually lower, due entirely to a reduction in
multipliers, i.e., lack of activity from many counties, and only one mobile /
rover. Not publishing the results of the 2018 (40th Anniversary) contest only
served to dis-incent participation. I hope that doesn't happen again in 2019 or
we'll be condemning this contest. If you like contesting for the masses,
providing a venue to learn for rookies, a less-than-mundane exchange, and a
rather high level of activity, you should help keep this institution alive.

So, I've operated full-time twice from home now. I've been wanting to operate
this contest mobile for quite some time. It's time to make it happen. I will
strive to operate the 2020 MiQP from a mobile, to help restore the excitement of
chasing the mobile(s). If anyone would like to join me (hint hint, to a mobile
veteran...), please contact me soon so we can begin planning.

Please MiQP committee, publish the results quickly. How about setting a national
example of how contest results CAN be published quickly. Set the bar that others
follow, because in my opinion, that's the single worst part of radiosport -
waiting months, or in this case, over a year (and counting), for results.

Respectfully,

K8BKM
