Again, we organized the W4QO QRP CONTEST TEAM which this year included
8 licensees and 2 non-licensees. Many had never operated a contest (or
even HF radio) before. This was NOT an "all out" effort, but operated
13 of the 20 hours available. W4QO had mostly CW duties and the others operated
SSB. We used N3FJP software. We were able to work 41 states, 4 Canadian
provinces, and 9 foreign countries, including NFARL member HC5DX, David.
We had 403 contacts this year which is 10 more than 2018 but fell short in the
points category - 48,975 this year to 50, 974 in 2018. This was likely due to 2
less MULTS. Still 75 multipliers is not bad - why we work MIXED!
We did:
1. Involve lots of "newbies" in contesting
2. Help the NFARL point effort
3. Show that QRP "works" contrary to some opinion. When it was
mentioned to strong stations that we were 5 watts, we got the usual
"gratifying" AMAZING comment. One station in AR insisted a couple
times - "You are a true 10 over S9" That's why we do QRP folks!
