A real lesson in 160M propagation. Friday -- no EU to be found until their
sunrise, then very weak. My pennants were not directional at all for most of
Fri/Saturday morning. Best RX antenna was the Pixel Loop. Saturday, everything
went back to normal, Pennants did their thing, and EU started to show up on
schedule, albeit still pretty weak. To get most, I had to use APF filter with
NR on in a 400 Hz BW, which left me scrambling to tune into a weak station by
hand until into the passband.
Begin Gripe.
C'mon guys and gals. When you're working under weak signal or bad SNR
conditions, how about a few repeats on your call sign or other info! I'm trying
to tune you in and dig you out of the noise, and you give me 1 shot of your call
each time I send a "?". Then, of course, the QSB takes you out after
my next "?".
End Gripe.
Rig: K3/P3, Acom 1500., XMatch tuner.
Xmit Antenna: Base loaded 80m 1/4 wave vertical with ground radials.
RX Antennas: NE/W Pennants, S BOG, Pixel Loop.
Software: N1MM+
All in all a great time on the Top Band as usual, with all the usual suspects.
Thanks to all for coming back to me with your usual grace under pressure.
Rick
