Comments:
Murphy was out in full force this weekend:
1. All antennas were iced up from 5:00 Saturday afternoon until about 9:30
Sunday morning. 6 meters was usable only with the help of the antenna tuner.
2. The power went out at the site from 10:30 Sunday morning until 4:10 Sunday
afternoon - almost 6 hours.
3. The 2 meter receiving system died late Saturday afternoon. I drove up to
attempt to fix it Sunday morning just as the power went out. My flashlight was
not sufficient to spot the problem.
4. The high winds on Sunday afternoon and evening raised the 6 meter noise
floor, making contacts harder to complete.
I saw no e-skip or good tropo on any band. After the first hour or two of the
contest, the digital modes became the main source of contacts and grids. I had
very limited success calling CQ on 222 or 432 after the 2 meter system went
out.
Even with the problems, it is still a good challenge and an opportunity to say
hi to old and new friends.
